Fast facts: Hunter valley is located about two and half hours drive from Sydney and about an hour from Newcastle. The main wine and food region is located in Pokolbin and stretches all the way up to the upper Hunter to Scone.

So you may have heard the Hunter Valley is a wonderful wine region and let me tell you it certainly is. Anyone one that loves wine will appreciate coming here to taste it. The thing is though that the region is not just for wine lovers. The Hunter Valley has some of the best restaurants in NSW for a start.

What surprised me was that driving through the area you would not know that there are so many wonderful restaurants tucked away from eyes view. It is a matter of picking up a local tourist magazine or having a look at the restaurants on accommodation gateway , that you really will see the extent of them.

Apart from the wonderful food and wine just driving through the wine region is a very pictureque pleasant an enjoyable drive. The area boosts many private style accommodation and cottages that can be great for families.

This is also a great option for families or group and family get togethers.
Staying in some of these country property will really give you that country feel get away. Some thing we should all try now and again.

There are quite a few events and festivals around the Hunter happening all year around. You can also try Hot air ballooning or take the kids for a pony ride. The Hunter also has a zoo. The Hunter Valley gardens are certainly a place to visit, as the name tells there are some of the most beautiful gardens there you will ever see, this in itself can be a whole day event.

They also have built a perfect village that has lots of specialty shops and some great places for food and coffee. The kids will enjoy the park play and recreation area which is also free. You could also pack a picnic for the day as this is very much the done thing there too.

If you are up to it physically you can hire bikes from the village area.

So the Hunter Valley is certainly has some thing for everyone and not just wine lovers.
